Description

For :iconthetravellergroup: monthly challenge of making new designs of common ships. The artwork on this is sadly lacking, so I hope for now you will enjoy the deckplans of this experimental scout.

The 100 ton Experimental Scout is a two part vehicle. There is a 50-ton flat keeled sled which houses the maneuver drives, jump drive and a majority of the fuel. Fitted into it is a 50-ton tracked ATV exploration vehicle. This houses the living quarters, computer and flight systems. When mated together it is a 100 ton vehicle capable of Jump-2 and 2G acceleration. It's main role is for extended survey missions where prolonged ground work is required or environment makes flight operations hazardous. The oversized ATV module has all the facilities needed to perform the duties of a whole ship... indeed it is a ship that's left it's space drives behind. It even includes the hardpoint for a turret for defense in either mode. On the other side of things, the maneuver sled also contains a small cabin for a pilot and small craft controls, for any flight operations of it's own while the ATV module is away.

I based this off an old computer game called Sundog. The ship in that game was this strange little freighter where the cargo bay was a detachable truck that you drove around on the planet. [link]

I will admit in retrospect this design works better than mine, but I wasn't trying to do an exact copy and was working from memory in any case. Regardless this was the inspiration to this scout.

Traveller deckplans are always welcome in my 'universe', never enough ships to add to my database !
